Simplified InfraWorks 360 Offering

InfraWorks 360 is Autodesk’s next generation BIM for Infrastructure offering that enables true parametric modeling in spatial context.  It uniquely offers customers the benefits of maintaining a BIM workflow through planning, design, construction and operations of infrastructure assets.  Many customers like Parsons Brinkerhoff, VHB, David, Evans & Associates, SCODI (China), Soethe Cursino (Brazil), and others have leveraged the power of InfraWorks 360 to optimize their project delivery process.

In order to bring enhanced value to its customers and accelerate the move to BIM for Infrastructure, Autodesk has made significant changes to the pricing and packaging of InfraWorks 360.  In this BIM on the Rocks post, Dan Philbrick, Director of the Civil Infrastructure Product Line for Autodesk, describes these changes.Colfax Station looking east

Can you briefly describe the recent changes made to InfraWorks 360?

Simply put, InfraWorks 360 now includes the core product features along with the advanced capabilities previously found separately in the vertical application modules – Road Design, Drainage Design and Bridge Design – all in one single package, making life with this product easier for our customers. There is no longer a need to  purchase modules individually; or worse yet, go reaching for a tool in the middle of a project only to realize it’s not available because you don’t have access.  Moving forward if you subscribe to InfraWorks 360, you immediately have access to all the capabilities available within the InfraWorks 360 portfolio.

Why were these changes made?

As we’ve continued to mature and expand the capabilities of InfraWorks 360 and better understand how our customers are leveraging the product, we’ve come to realize that simplification was necessary.  In order to enable our customers to accelerate their move to BIM and continue to improve their project workflows, eliminating barriers to adoption was absolutely necessary. Taking the guess work, and frankly frustration, out of knowing whether or not you have specific product features was an important milestone.  In addition, lowering the price of entry also provides many of our existing Civil 3D customers the opportunity to attach InfraWorks 360 to their traditional CAD-based workflows and improve their productivity through enhanced BIM workflows.  The seamless integration between InfraWorks 360 and Civil 3D provides our customers an unparalleled opportunity to leverage the best of both CAD and BIM in their projects.

What customer challenges are addressed by InfraWorks 360?

One of the most challenging and time consuming aspects of infrastructure projects is that of attaining approvals from various stakeholders.  Traditional mediums to convey design intent such as foam board displays and 2D plans are outdated.
InfraWorks 360 enables customers to easily evaluate   their design within the context of the project’s real-world surroundings so they can effectively communicate intent to key project stakeholders.  InfraWorks 360 also provides the ability to optioneer and leverage analytics to optimize decisions earlier in the planning and design process.  Most importantly however is the ability to move a BIM model downstream into design and construction, InfraWorks 360 minimizes the loss of critical information as the model matures through the various phases of an assets lifecycle.

How can users learn more about InfraWorks 360?

There are several ways to learn more about InfraWorks 360.

First, one might want to start with a visit to the InfraWorks 360 product center.  This is where you’ll find a lot of information including learning more about the key features and functionality of InfraWorks 360.  And this is where you can also find a link to the InfraWorks 360 Trial – so you can give InfraWorks 360 a test drive for 30 days.

I’d also suggest participating in the InfraWorks 360 Community.  Whether you’re just getting started or already an experienced user, the Community is a great way to get connected and share best practices with your peers.

Finally, you’ll find a YouTube video describing these changes and the latest updates to InfraWorks 360 in our YouTube channel.  And, do follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
