How to Model a Bearing Plate and Schedule its Elevation in Revit

This screencast describes the procedures needed to model a bearing plate and schedule its elevation in Revit. Normally, you might want to create a family, but in this particular case, since we want to schedule the elevation, using a simple floor and then filtering it in a schedule is cleaner and more straightforward.

  1. Select the Floor tool from the ribbon.
  2. Click Edit Type in the Properties window. Then select Duplicate and rename your floor type to something descriptive like 1/2″ Plate.
  3. Edit the Structure in the Type Properties to match the bearing plate thickness and material you want to use.
  4. Assign a Type Mark with a prefix, such as “PL” so that you can filter out the plates in your schedule later.
  5. Select OK to close the Type Properties window.
  6. Sketch the plate as needed.
  7. Assign an appropriate Height Elevation Offset From Level for the sketched floor and complete the floor by clicking the green Finish checkmark in the Contextual Ribbon.
