Portland Adult Soapbox Derby 2019

Portland Adult Soapbox Derby 2019
Two weeks ago I had one of the coolest volunteer jobs as a Course Marshall for the 22nd annual Portland Adult Soapbox Derby held in Portland’s beautiful Mount Tabor Park. I spent all day with a bullhorn and a radio clearing the course, heckling people who ignored the course rules, assuring the safety of the derby cars and drivers as well as the spectators, and making people laugh and have fun. There were several races and we had a few crashes in or near our section but luckily no injuries. The crowd was amazing and even fed and kept me hydrated. At the end of the long day we held the awards and celebration as this event is all about community, fun, and making something.

Some Autodesk Portland employees even designed using Autodesk software and built a car and competed this year.

The derby cars are mostly for fun and laughs with a few taking the speed records seriously. Here are some of my photos of the event
