Be Able to Let It Go

I am not going to make Frozen reference.

Remember that we are making tools and workflows (usually) for a company or team. Your insight and input are crucial to the team’s success, so you should always present your best idea.

But many times, the final decision isn’t ours.

BIM and CAD support and managers usually answer up to someone. And while the majority of what we do is often accepted without question, sometimes something you are pushing for is going to get a “no” from those you answer to.

And that’s fine.

What’s not fine is clinging to your idea. Or kicking and screaming about it. Or pointing out down the road why they were wrong and you were right.

These outbursts accomplish nothing except creating a rift in the team and making people reluctant to offer you feedback. And so many times that feedback is essential to success.
